Graphics V3.2

Better Lighting — consistent indoor and outdoor light, and genuinely dark nights

Makes indoor and outdoor lighting consistent and raises contrast between light and shadow, removing the inverted eye-adaptation effect when you go inside.

Details

A lighting mod that tunes the game towards **survival and horror**.

What changes

  • **Indoor and outdoor lighting become consistent**
  • **Contrast between light and shadow increases** in bright areas
  • **The inverted "eye adaptation" on entering a building is removed** — vanilla makes dark interiors appear brighter, which undercuts immersion
  • Settings to pair with it

The author recommends lowering the game's **Brightness to 0%** (or close). Because **moonlight is untouched**, it does not go pitch black: you can still barely see at night.

If you use the optional Reshade preset, **turn SSAO off**. The bundled Glamayre Fast Effects shader looks better and performs better, so disabling SSAO actually **improves performance**.

    An option for server operators

An OPTIONAL file called **`Server Enforced Brightness`** **forces every client's brightness to 0%** (edit `blocks.xml` for a different value).

Designing difficulty around darkness falls apart if players simply raise their brightness; this closes that gap. **Useful for running a horror-leaning server.**

The author notes they have used it since V1 and that it behaves the same in V2 and V3.

    Installation

Extract into your `Mods` folder. Then lower **Brightness to near 0%** in the video settings for the intended look. Add `Server Enforced Brightness` to align players, and **turn SSAO off** if you use Reshade.
