Gears — an in-game settings page for your other mods

Lets mods that support it expose their settings in the game's own Mods menu. It adds nothing by itself and is installed when another mod asks for it.

Details

A settings framework. **On its own it adds no items, no blocks and changes no gameplay** — every setting you see belongs to the mod that declared it.

Why not a config file

Changing a mod's options used to mean **alt-tabbing, finding the folder and editing XML by hand**, with no feedback at all when a typo broke something.

With Gears you change those options **from the main menu or mid-game**, and your choices are restored next time the game starts.

What it does for servers

This is where it earns its place. **The host picks a world's settings on the New Game or Continue Game screen, Gears writes them into the save, and every player who joins receives them.**

A config file belongs to one install, so previously somebody had to **hand files around before a session**. That goes away.

Setting types

Settings are grouped by tabs and categories, with five input types — a selector that steps through fixed choices, a slider you drag, and so on — all readable and changeable without leaving the game.

Requirements

| | |

|---|---|

| Game version | **v3.0 - v3.1.0** (from the file notes) |

| GearsAPI | **v2.0.1** |

| EAC | must be **disabled** |

Many mods require it, `IZY Classic` among them. **If nothing you run asks for it, you do not need it.**

Installation

Extract into your `Mods` folder. It uses `GearsAPI.dll`, so **disable EAC**. See the mod page for the full installation instructions.
